Our spectacular trip through Oregon was slowly coming to an end. Back-to-reality was ahead of us, but not before our last stop to beautiful Cannon Beach, where we would be spending our last day.
The morning at Jetty Fishery was sunny and beautiful with a slight hint of crispness in the air. Packing up the Airstream and getting ready for our journey just 25 miles north, I couldn’t help but feel so happy and excited about our day ahead. It had been quite some time since our last visit to Cannon Beach, and I was looking forward to experiencing the beach and taking a stroll through the quaint town complete with ice cream parlors, souvenir shops and quaint little outdoor cafes tucked around every corner.
“Will there be surfers, mommy?” Bradley asked me as we were driving along the spectacular coastline towards our destination.
After our trip to Pacific City and observing the talented surfers in action there, Bradley was truly enthralled with them and I was happy to be able to tell him yes, there would be surfers in Cannon Beach.
In no time at all, we arrived and made our way down to the four-mile-long stretch of sandy beach. I wish there was a way I could express to you the beauty of it here. Something happens to you when step onto this beach and the sweeping views of the ocean and dramatic Haystack Rock greet you. We stood there for what seemed like eternity just taking in the views. Here were families building sandcastles, couples happily walking together hand in hand and children everywhere playing happily. It was like a vision from a Norman Rockwell painting.
And there they were. The surfers.
“Let’s go, Mommy!” Bradley shouted as he ran towards the shore to get a closer look. We were not the only ones watching; the surfers had their very own audience of about 20 people, many with cameras in hand “oohing and aahing” at the sight of the surfers catching wave after wave. There was no shortage of talent here – that was for sure!
After watching their stellar performances it was time for lunch. Walking through town was a pleasure as we passed boutique after boutique and shopped with our eyes. Up ahead, hubby spied Morris’ Fireside Restaurant, which he described as “the best!”
He was right. The atmosphere inside was cozy and warm, with a cabin feel that made you feel like you were right at home. This place was perfect and took off the chill from outside. We settled down at our table and soon our host Armando was there, smiling from ear to ear and welcoming us. Burgers for us, sliders for Bradley and fries for all were ordered. I should not forget to mention that hubby and I ordered Armando’s famous Bloody Mary, which you can find on the menu. It was hands down the best Bloody Mary we have ever, ever had (and we consider ourselves quite the connoisseurs!).
We toasted to our fabulous trip in beautiful Oregon and vowed to come back soon.
Thank you Oregon. Your state has shown us so much – from the vast and colorfully painted landscapes of the warm central desert, to your rugged and breathtaking coastline, to the inspiring kind and happy people who live here that we were so fortunate to meet along this trip of ours. We can hardly wait to come back and experience even more that this state has to offer. We have seen so much along the way where hubby and I mentioned to each other: “We must come back and see that!”
We can hardly wait for our next trip to beautiful Oregon!
