Get a dose of spring sunshine in the high desert towns of Redmond and Sisters. Located within 20 miles of each other just north of Bend, Redmond and Sisters both offer a small-town feel in the dramatic backdrop of the Central Oregon mountains.

Play: Hike or climb at Smith Rock or take a shorter walk into Dry Canyon from Redmond. You can also check out one of the three new state-designated scenic bikeways — Sisters to Smith Rock (35 miles), McKenzie Pass (38 miles) and Metolius River Loops (various). For spring skiing, check out Hoo Doo Mountain Resort.

Shop: Stroll main street and browse unique stores like Paulina Springs Bookstore (in Sisters and Redmond), fiber art and bead store Desert Charm (in Sisters), and various antique stores and galleries in both towns.

Eat and Drink: In Redmond, stop for coffee at Green Plow Coffee Roasters and One Street Down Café for breakfast or lunch. In Sisters, enjoy a glass of Oregon wine and a plate of tapas at Cork Cellars Wine Bar and Bottle Shop and at Sisters Saloon & Ranch Grill for dinner with a true Western feel.
