A true English-style pub in laid-back Corvallis, Oregon, McMenamins Corvallis fills the space formerly occupied by the loftily-named Tower of London fish-and-chip house. Unlike the actual Tower of London, where more than a few Brits spent their last night on earth, McMenamins' location is a pure delight: all inviting decor, intimate lighting and abundant flower boxes that encourage lazy lunches around the fireplace. Outdoor seating is always available in summertime months. Why, we even host those happy "tailgate parties" before cheering on the Oregon State University Beaver's football team.
The McMenamins brothers were among those fearless entrepreneurs who, in 1985, led the movement in Oregon to allow brewers the right to brew and consume in the same location. After a victorious fight at the state capitol, McMenamins opened the Hillsdale Brewery & Public House, Oregons first legal brewpub since Prohibition. Since then, Portland has become one of the premier destinations in the U.S. to enjoy handcrafted microbrews, including those of McMenamins Pubs & Breweries.
