1. Day One

Enjoy an early tee-time at Running Y Ranch Resort, home to Oregon’s only award-winning Arnold Palmer-designed golf course. Winding through lush forests and scenic wetlands, this 7,138-yard, par-72 course is a seamless blend of natural beauty and challenging play for all skill levels.

If you’re not a golfer, there are plenty of other options at the Ranch, including a pampering day at their spa. Or get dirty with a western-themed adventure: move some cattle, take a scenic trail ride atop a horse or enjoy a wagon ride with the whole family.

In the afternoon, head into town to Historic Main Street to tour the shops, as well as visit the Favell Museum of Western Art and Artifacts, which offers a glimpse into early Klamath Basin life with an impressive collection of Western art as well as Native American clothing, beadwork and tools.

Finish your day canoeing the lakes of the Klamath Basin by the light of the full moon with Roe Outfitters. Their Full Moon Canoe Tours (July 3-8, Aug. 4-8, Sept. 3-5) leave at 8pm and return at about midnight. No experience is necessary and the waters are mainly flat and calm, but it’s a long trip so canoers must be at least ten years old. In addition to being a unique, totally peaceful experience, it’s worry free since Roe Outfitters takes care of all the details: they provide the canoe, guide and transportation.

If you’re not in town during a full moon, you can still take a guided canoe tour during the day to spot amazing wildlife and surrounding scenic beauty.

2. Day Two

There’s good reason Sunset magazine rated the Klamath Basin one of the “Fantastic Five Birding Destinations in the West.” With eight state and federal wildlife refuges in the Klamath Basin, you can certainly spend the entire day exploring this scenic area in search of wildlife.

Today, pack a picnic lunch, plenty of water, grab your binoculars and hit the Klamath Basin Birding Trail. It has 47 designated locations where birding enthusiasts can spot more than 350 species. That’s a lot of birds!
