Great Wines and Gracious Hospitality

The Land of Umpqua is home to a thriving wine region and a "full tummy" experience. West of Roseburg, country roads lead you through rolling farm lands to great wines and gracious hospitality in communities such as Lookingglass, Tenmile, Melrose, Garden Valley, Umpqua, Winston, and Elkton.

LaGarza Cellars & Gourmet Kitchen, five miles south of Roseburg near Winston, combines great food and fine wines in a relaxed setting. A few miles farther west on Lookingglass Road is Abacela Vineyards and Winery. Call ahead for tasting or a tour. Girardet Wine Cellars, located on Reston Road in Tenmile, invites you to taste award winning wines and picnic at their pergola.

Traveling north to Melrose, Hillcrest Vineyard is the oldest continuously operating vinifera winery in Oregon, and is open year round. Nearby in Garden Valley is Champagne Creek Winery. Open daily, Champagne Creek greets visitors in a restored 1878 hay barn.

DeNino Umpqua River Vineyards, open for tasting by appointment only, is a short distance to the north. The Henry Estate Winery is located northwest of Roseburg in Umpqua. The Henry family invites you to sample wines year round. The area's newest winery, Rivers Edge, in Elkton, is an easy drive north from Umpqua. It's open for tasting summer weekends only.

If you're traveling during the spring and fall, produce stands along rural roads make it easy to add farm fresh goodies to your shopping list. Purchase some fresh fruit and vegetables and enjoy a picnic at River Forks Park. Pioneers on the Applegate Trail came to travel "across the waters" at this point in the mid 1800's.
