The Klamath tribe is located in the pristine, high plateaus of southern Oregon. The tribal capital is located in Chiloquin, thirty miles north of Klamath Falls. Over 7,000 years ago, members of the Klamath Tribe witnessed a fantastic volcanic eruption of Mount Mazama which eventually became Crater Lake. Crater Lake (also known as giiwas) has been called the 8th Wonder of the World, and a spiritual, sacred place to tribe members. This, in addition to the Lava Beds National Monument and Klamath Lake are definitely worth taking a road trip to see. Visit the largest freshwater lake in North America, in addition to ni Laks (meaning the sunrising place), where tribe members go to think and pray. Expand your historical knowledge by traveling to Lava Beds National Monument, and investigating a number of trails and caves.
