Portland's premier community celebration, the Portland Rose Festival, will welcome the tall ships Lady Washington, the Official Ship of the State of Washington, and her companion ship, Hawaiian Chieftain, for an eight-day visit. The ships are scheduled to arrive at approximately 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 29 at Tom McCall Park, near the Salmon Fountain, intersection of Southwest Salmon Street and Southwest Naito Parkway. Both vessels will fire their cannon as they approach their berths.
Public sailings are scheduled, including five Battle Sails, which feature booming cannons and close-quarters maneuvers. Battle Sails are scheduled for these dates and times: May 31, June 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. all days. Tickets for the Battle Sails are $60 for adults, $50 for seniors, students, and active military, and $40 for children under 12.
A Fireworks Sail for viewing fireworks from the water is scheduled for 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. on May 30. Tickets for the Fireworks Sail are $75 for adults and $50 for children under 12.
