1.
Day One
Kayak Scappoose Bay
Make sure to stretch before heading out on a guided kayak tour with Scappoose Bay Kayaking. They offer a variety of tours depending on how much time you wish to spend on the water. The three-hour Wetland Tour takes you back into the wetlands and waterways of Scappoose Bay to explore wildlife and botanical plants. Or, take the five-hour Eco-Quiet Water Kayaking Tour, which starts with a classroom presentation of the nature that you’ll see (and hear) as you paddle through protected freshwater bays, estuaries and sloughs.
For dinner, nosh on fried oysters, cioppino, ahi or other delectable dishes at Mark’s on the Channel Restaurant, overlooking the marina and all its sailboats. Ask for a seat on the outdoor patio. End your day 10 miles north in St. Helens at the luxurious Seawright House Bed & Breakfast.
2.
Day Two
Walk & Bike St. Helens
Spend the morning on an exploration of Historic Riverfront District in Olde Towne St. Helens. Walk the public docks, past the theater, pick up some coffee and pastries and decide which restaurant piques your interest for dinner later tonight.
The surrounding countryside offers plenty of opportunity for scenic rural biking. You can rent bikes for the whole family at Barlow Bikes & Boards - The Bike Shop in St. Helens and wind through pastureland, old tree-lined logging roads and area parks. Ask the Bike Shop for recommended routes, or call ahead for information about one- and two-day guided tours, if you’re up for a longer ride.
