Room Service for Rover - Oregon hotels put out the welcome mat for pets

In a state that has welcomed pets since Lewis and Clark brought a dog along the trail, there are pet-friendly hotels galore. Here is a smattering of some properties that are just sitting up and begging for your pets to be guests.

For more pet-friendly lodging options head to our lodging page, pick a city and check the “Pets allowed” box under the search.

1. Downtown Portland

In Portland, Hotel Vintage Plaza (422 S.W. Broadway, 503.228.1212) and Hotel Monaco (506 S.W. Washington St., 503.222.0001) will have Fido doing flips because, while other downtown hotels charge $10 to $75 per four-legged guest, these two charge no fee. In fact, they roll out the red carpet. The Hotel Vintage Plaza even has a Doggie Honor Bar with gourmet treats, while Hotel Monaco will call in a pet psychic to explore the space between your companion’s floppy ears.

2. Willamette Valley

Eugene's Valley River Inn (1000 Valley River Way, 541.687.0123) offers pet-friendly lodging, and is located right next to Valley River Shopping Center and a number of local restaurants. Spend the day shopping or walking your dog around town, and return to relax in front of a fireplace with your furry friend!

3. Oregon Coast

Just 90 minutes away, in the coastal town of Cannon Beach, your pets will relish the giant sandbox. And you will love the fantastic beachfront accommodations at Surfsand Resort (146 W. Gower, 503.436.2274) and Ocean Lodge (2864 Pacific St., 503.436.2241).

At Surfsand, where pets are $12 extra, an annual dog show is held on the third Saturday of October. The pet fee is $15 at Ocean Lodge, which features a pet wash (like a car wash, only smaller).

Or head on over to the Fireside Motel (1881 Hwy 101 N, 541.547.3636) in Yachats, where pets can explore miles of sandy beaches, as well as a small wooded area next to the hotel. There is a pet fee of $9 per animal, per night. A maximum of two well-behaved animals are allowed.
