1. From the City to the Country

See why Portland is called the "City of Roses" and how Oregon wines get raves worldwide. Start this tour in Washington Park, nestled in Portland's West Hills off Hwy. 26. Follow the signs -- and your nose -- to the International Rose Test Garden, where over 500 varieties bloom from May to October. Enjoy a picnic before strolling through the tranquil Japanese Garden. To sample another type of bouquet, take a leisurely drive through Washington County vineyards, west of Portland. Wrap up your first day at a bed and breakfast in the wine country.

2. In to the Forest

Then begin day two in Forest Grove and stop at wineries along Hwy. 47. You'll end up near McMinnville on Hwy. 99W, where you can visit wineries near Lafayette, Dundee and Newberg.

3. To Extend this Tour

Continue south to enjoy gardens and wineries in the Salem, Corvallis and Eugene areas. Then take I-5 to Southern Oregon. Inhale the fragrant roses in Medford and imbibe the wines near Cave Junction.
