Portland Metro Trips We Love

From Portland, Beaverton and Oregon City to St. Helens, Forest Grove and West Linn, check out the following 2-day, 3-day or 4-day itineraries for road trip, day trip and getaway ideas in the Portland area as provided by our local and regional tourism partners. And for even more ideas, check out our blog and see what we (the Travel Oregon staff) recommend.

Portland’s “backyard” is graced by the rolling green hills of wine country, spectacular waterfalls, kayak-friendly waterways and lush rainforests- tethered to the landscape by the sublime majesty of Mt. Hood- all just within an hour’s drive! Experience the awe-inspiring panoramic views (at Vista House), and dazzling waterfalls along the Historic Columbia River Highway (an 80-mile architectural gem between Portland and Biggs Junction). Take Highway 99W down to Newberg or head to Forest Grove and wind your way south on Highway 47 to experience the pastoral views, small-town charms and budding restaurant scene of wine country. And what’s more, head west on Highway 30 and explore Astoria, the oldest American settlement west of the Rockies or drive the 100-mile loop from Portland or Oregon City and check out the historic Barlow Pass.
