Historic Nye Beach has been making people happy since it was established by its name sake, John Nye, who obtained a160 acre land claim in 1866 when Newport was first opened for settlement. Sam Irvin promoted Nye Beach as a destination resort area in the 1880's. By the early 1900's, L.C. Smith, a realtor, promoted the area as "The Promised Land." Smith was responsible for many of the wooden boardwalks which linked the Nye Beach oceanfront neighborhood to the bayfront area.
Nye Beach continues today as a pedestrian friendly district. We offer a variety of lodging options, fine and casual dining, shopping, the visual and performing arts as well as essential services. An oceanfront parking lot provides easy handicapped access to Nye Beach. Public restrooms, picnic tables and a foot-wash area make this a wonderful place for the family to enjoy the beach.
Centrally located in Newport, Oregon, 5 blocks west of Pacific Coast Highway 101 off NW Third Street. Look for the Nye Beach Arch over NW Beach Drive to access oceanfront parking.
