The area’s museums and cultural centers (such as End of the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center, the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center and Museum of the Oregon Territory) are shaped by the heritage of both the original Native American settlers and the death-defying Oregon Trail journey of the pioneers. Visit the historic Barlow Road Tollgates on Mt. Hood and Baker Cabin, or one of the many other pioneer homes, to get a glimpse of Oregon life in the mid 1800s. The region is home to a thriving community of artists, sculptors and actors, and offers a lexicon of unique attractions such as the Maiden Bronze Foundry, America’s largest bronze foundry, the International Museum of Carousel Art, the most comprehensive collection of antique carousel art, the Lake Oswego Foundation of the Arts and Sandy Actors Theater.
