Featured in the Lost Towns of Baker County exhibit are photos, documents and artifacts from a handful of the towns that flourished during the county’s mining heyday. Nine towns are featured, including Homestead, Cornucopia, Sanger and Bourne. In 1862 Auburn was the second largest city in Oregon with a population of 6,000. Nothing remains of the town today. You’ll find mention of the hanging of Spanish Tom in Auburn, the wild brawls at Barney Goldberg’s Saloon in Copperfield and other interesting facts about the lost towns.
