The Eagle Cap Wilderness Area in in the heart of the Wallowa Mountains in northeastern Oregon offers a one-of-a-kind backcountry ski experience. Wallowa Alpine Huts has the only permit here to provide backcountry tours that include four day long-weekender trips or five day mid-weeker trips.
You’ll start by hiking 4-miles and ascending 1,800-feet to a hut base of 7,500 feet; the base camp consists of four yurts (two for guests, one for crew and one for the sauna!). The Wallowa’s are classic western territory that’s made up of high U-shaped bowls that capture heaps of dry fluffy snow and punctuated by majestic white peaks just shy of 10,000-feet ensuring.
