Willamette Valley Places to Dine
The green rolling hills of this fertile valley are of course famous for its Pinot Noir—but it also produces such superb varietals as Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Riesling and Gewürztraminer, among others. The valley is also perfect breeding ground for Oregon black and white truffles, which often work their way, decadently, into dishes in the area’s finer restaurants. When the season is at hand (December through February) you may want to bundle up and try your own luck at finding these pungent goodies. Aside from wine and truffles, the Willamette Valley is ripe with hazelnuts. In fact, Oregon supplies the country with 99 percent of its hazelnuts! These buttery nuts show up on desserts, and in salads and entrées at restaurants all over the state and beyond.
